New Army Pink & Green Uniform

Uncategorized

On Veteran’s Day the Army announced it’s plans to go forward with a new dress uniform change. The new dress uniform is a version of the World War II pink and green officers uniforms from that era. New Soldiers will be issued the new dress uniform in the beginning of summer in 2020. The new dress uniform named Army Greens, will be mandatory for all soldier by 2028.

  • Availability

Soldiers on Active Duty, in the  National Guard and Reserves will be able to buy the new uniform in 2020. Again nothing will be mandatory until 2028. The Army Service Uniform will be considered the Army’s optional dress uniform. As of right now the Army will not release the cost of the uniform. Only that it will cost more then the current dress uniform. This is due to the higher quality in materials. The new Army Greens will last an estimated six years, where the Army Service Uniform only last for four years.

  • Uniform setup

The new uniform design has not yet been finalized. The standard set up seems to be belted jacket , khaki shirt and pants and brown leather shoes for men. The women’s set of the uniform will have a skirt and pants as well as have the option of shoes and pumps. The head gear will be changed to a Walnut brown leather visor wit chin strap. There will also be the option for the traditional Garrison cover. The uniform will no longer require the beret.

  • The Inspiration

The idea for the uniform was to commemorate ” America’s Greatest Generation”. “This is the uniform worn by America’s Greatest Generation in World War II.” a press release stated. Sergeant Major Of The Army Daniel Dailey said.” This uniform is still in the mind of many Americans. This nation came together during World War II and fought and won a great war.” He continued by saying,” That’s what the Secretary and Chief of Staff of The Army Gen Mark Milley want to do, is capitalize on the greatest generation because there is another great generation serving today, and that is the Soldiers serving in the United States Army.”

There is still a lot of information to learn about the uniform, but until then I will try keep this article updated. This plan has been in the works for quite sometime now, over a year. It seems not many Soldiers are aware of the change, and honestly who can blame them. This new uniform will have to be purchased out of pocket, as of now there is no plan to issue through the supply system. We are still 10 years away until this is a mandatory item, a lot can change till then.
