Army Combat Readiness Test

Uncategorized

A new Army Fitness test will be coming to the Army in 2020. For years we as leaders has heard the Army was thinking about changing the APFT for a number of years. For myself I’ve been in 16 years and have heard this on a several occasions. But in 2020 the Army will be implementing a new fitness test, to check the combat readiness of its soldiers. But as early as 2019 the Army will be testing out the new fitness test. 60 Battalions across the Army will spend a year training for the new fitness test. Helping to provide data the Army to get an idea of scores and issues. As of right now the Army has been testing the new fitness on about 2000 soldiers. This new fitness test will be gender & age neutral, according the Army. The new PT test will consist of six events:

  1. Deadlift- Soldiers will have to deadlift 120 to 420 pounds, depending on the individual soldier. Three reps in five minutes must be completed.

  2. Stand and throw- Soldiers will be required to toss a 10-pound medicine ball overhead and backward. They’ll have three minutes to make one practice throw and two for a grade. The longest distance is recorded.

  3. Hand release pushups – A soldier will lower their chest to the floor and lift their hands off the ground between each rep. They’ll be required to do the most reps in three minutes.

  4. Sprint / Drag / Carry – Soldiers will have four minutes, to go 25 meters out and 25 meters back five times. Each iteration will include a different activity: sprint, drag a sled, run a lateral shuffle, carry two 40-pound kettle bells, then sprint again

  5. Leg tuck – Soldiers will be required to hang from a pull-up bar and with their body parallel, then pull knees to their elbows for as many reps as possible in two minutes.

  6. 2 mile run – Soldier will run on a track or a paved, level road, with a 20-minute maximum.

To give you an idea of what the schedule event will look like:

  • Deadlift

  • 2 min break

  • Stand & Throw

  • 2 min break

  • Hand release pushups

  • 2 min break

  • Sprint / Drag / Carry

  • 2 min break

  • Leg tuck

  • 5 min break

  • 2 mile run

Scoring will be a little different, there is the ability to get 100 points for each event for a max of 600 points. Again when the Army runs their test program they’ll get a better idea of the minimums of the event will be. Also scoring will differ from MOS to MOS, from my understanding the tougher MOS’s will be require a higher score. But again this may all change when the Army completes its test program. Below I have attached a link to a website with good information.
